LEATHER CARE.
First of all : "correctly identify which leather type that
you are treating. For example, is it Pigmented (protected), Aniline, Suede
or Nubuck.". This is very important because there are different
treatments for different leather types.
Generally Leather falls into three main categories;
A) Aniline Leather - The surface finish is transparent. You can see the
grain structure through the finish.
It is like looking through a colored lens. Lightly scratch the surface
and if it scratches to a lighter color, and the surface is smooth, the
leather is aniline leather.
B) Protected Leather - The surface finish is not transparent. The
leather surface is covered with a blend of opaque pigments which are bound
in a resinous material.
This is the most common leather type. The surface will not scratch to
reveal a lighter color.
C) Nubuck Leather - Leather that is buffed on the
grain (hair) side of the grain to produce a velvety fine nap. The surface looks like very fine velvet.
Move your
hand lightly over the surface and if the color changes (much the same way
as your carpet changes color when you vacuum) the leather is nubuck. If
the surface has a course velvet structure, the leather type is suede.
